If you’ve lived in the Bay Area for any length of time, you might have noticed that the roads are getting busier, the homes are getting taller, and the demand for real estate is higher than ever. So when we got the chance to work on 2370 Scout—a beautiful home tucked away in the verdant Oakland Hills — and proudly present it to homebuyers just like yourself, we were more than a little excited.

2370 Scout Road is a lot of things: It’s privacy without isolation, coziness without confinement. It’s situated on a lush and expansive lot, yet is still a short drive away from all of the amenities of Bay Area life. It’s a small slice of solitude that feels a thousand miles away from traffic and townhouses, but without the inconvenience (or hefty price tag).

We saw these qualities and began by applying a designer-curated paint plan to both the interior and exterior which, as you may notice, serves up a boldly modern (yet aesthetically pleasing) contrast to the rustic surroundings. As the perfect complement to the environment, almost the entire house was then refinished with Mohawk® distressed-lumber laminate flooring. The exception to this is the hall bath, where a dark penny tile was substituted for a strikingly contemporary look that plays perfectly with the brand new polished chrome hardware.

We also saw a home that basks in natural light—vaulted ceilings, skylights in the master bedroom and kitchen, and a sunroom looking out onto a spacious backyard—and curated a custom lighting package that would accommodate this illuminated atmosphere. Each piece, whether it’s the one-of-a-kind chandelier over the kitchen island or the articulating chrome 4-light of the hall bath, was chosen to perfectly complement the room it is in.

Finally, the home enjoyed a detailed a floor-to-ceiling update. From a stainless steel kitchen appliance package to the Carrara marble and white ceramic subway tiles in the bathrooms, the Shaker-style cabinets with soft-close hinges to the expanded closet space in the master bedroom, virtually no corner was left untouched. Materials and finishes were carefully selected by designers with the goal of elevating your lifestyle while remaining practical (and easy to keep clean).
